Evelyn K Moyer

Evelyn K. Moyer, 61, of Maxatawny Township, died Tuesday, December 30, 2008 in her residence. She was the wife of Alton R. Moyer. They were married July 15, 1972.

Born in Abingdon, Va., she was a daughter of Eleanor G. (Rasch) Whitaker, Maxatawny Township and the late Dewey E. Whitaker. She was a member of New Jerusalem Zion United Church of Christ, Greenwich Township, where she was a Sunday School Teacher, Vice President of Sunday School, Secretary of the Helping Hands, and a former Consistory member. She was an elementary school teacher for Kutztown Area School District, first from 1968-1969 teaching fourth grade at Kutztown Elementary, then from 1969 until her retirement in 1998 teaching first grade at Maxatawny Elementary. Mrs. Moyer was a cooperating Master Teacher and Mentor to aspiring elementary teachers from Kutztown University. Evelyn received both her Bachelor’s Degree (1968) and Master’s Degree (1977) from Kutztown University in Elementary Education. Mrs. Moyer was a member of the Kutztown Area Historical Society and Kutztown Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, both of Kutztown, East Penn Retired Teachers Association and Berks County Retired Teachers Association.

She is survived by Stepsons, Kevin A. Moyer, Dallas, Tx. and Keith E. Moyer, Reading. There are 2 Sisters, Linda C. (Whitaker) Lawrence, Shillington and Lori A. (Whitaker) wife of Tony R. Zonca, Kutztown. In addition, there is a Niece, Victoria M. Lawrence; and a Nephew, James R. Sikes, Reading.

Funeral Services are Saturday, January 3, 2009, 10:30 AM at New Jerusalem Zion U.C.C. Church, 1456 Krumsville Road, Lenhartsville. Interment in New Bethel Zion Cemetery. Friends may call Friday, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM in the Ludwick Funeral Home, 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown and Saturday, 9:30 to 10:30 AM in the church.
