Eugene D. Findlay, 86, of Alburtis, died Sunday, July 5, 2015 in his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Shirley L. (Reifinger) Findlay whom he married March 10, 1956.
Born in Alburtis, he was a son of the late Harry and Annie (Kruse) Findlay. Mr. Findlay was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd U.C.C., Alburtis, and a United States Army veteran, serving as Military Police in the Korean War. Eugene was a member of The Royal Order of the Blue Nose, signifying the crossing of the Arctic Circle on June 24, 1952. One of his service highlights of being a Military Police was directing traffic during the inauguration of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. He was a 1947 graduate of Emmaus High School. Eugene was employed by Bally Engineered Structures, Inc., Bally, for 43 years, retiring in 1994.
He was a member of Alburtis Rod and Gun Club, a life member of Nimrod Fish and Wildlife Association, Inc., Alburtis, Alburtis Fire Company, Pike Township Sportsmen's Association, Oley, and Ray A. Master Post 217, American Legion, Topton. Eugene was one of the original Endmen in the former Alburtis Minstrel Shows
He is survived by Wife, Shirley; Children, Scott, husband of Mayra N. (Mejia) Findlay, Mertztown, Erin, (Findlay), wife of Jeffrey L. Rishel, York, Thomas L., husband of Amy C. (Snyder) Findlay, Alburtis, Susan G. (Findlay), wife of Gary W. Hartman, Kutztown, Julie A. Findlay, Allentown; and 9 Grandchildren, Brett, Troy, Meghan, Kurt, Erik, Jessica, Daniel, Patrick and Kyle.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at 2:00 PM in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, with Reverend Scott M. Sanders officiating. Inurnment, with military honors provided by Ray A. Master Post 217, American Legion Honor Guard, Topton, will follow in Lehigh Zion Cemetery, Alburtis. Relatives and friends may call Wednesday afternoon from 1:00 to 2:00 PM in the funeral home.
The family requests contributions be made in Eugene's memory to Church of the Good Shepherd U.C.C. Memorial Fund, 135 Quarry Road, Alburtis, PA 18011 or Lehigh Valley Hospice, 2166 South 12th Street, Allentown, PA 18103. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
