Mrs. Ethel J. Funk

Ethel J. (Weller) Funk, 97, a resident of Heilman House, Topton, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2024 in her residence. She was the widow of Clarence C. Funk.

Ethel was a daughter of the late Earl H. Weller, Sr., and Eva (Smith) Weller and was a member of Huff's Union Church (Lutheran Congregation), Alburtis, PA. Ethel was born and raised in the small village of Longsdale in Longswamp Township. She attended Longsdale High School until 11th grade in 1944, and in1945, graduated from Kutztown Area High School. Following her high school graduation, Ethel attended Joyce Art Beauty School, Allentown, and graduated in 1946.

Ethel was employed by Atlas Minerals & Chemicals, Inc., Mertztown, for 39 years until her retirement in 1993. She loved to make crafts, crochet and embroider. Ethel also enjoyed reading and doing puzzles.

Ethel is survived by her daughter, Linda L. (Weller), widow of Donald P. Kunkel, Topton; three grandchildren, Lori L. (Kunkel), wife of James R. Brightbill, Fleetwood, Donald R., husband of Jamie L. (Barrell) Kunkel, Stroudsburg, and Melanie D. (Kunkel), wife of Nathan J. Bernheiser, Fleetwood; five great-grandchildren, Joshua Brightbill, Kyle Brightbill, Austin Kunkel, Tyler Kunkel, and Alyssa Kunkel; and one great-great grandson, Hunter Kunkel.

Along with her husband and parents, Ethel was predeceased by her siblings, Ernest Weller, Earl Weller, Jr., and Wayne Weller.

A funeral service to celebrate and honor Ethel's life will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes and Cremation Care, Inc., 25 E. Weis Street, Topton, PA, with The Rev. Angelee Benner-Smith officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will conclude services in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Maidencreek Township.
