Esther S. (Snyder) Zimmerman, 87, formerly of Mertztown, died Tuesday, September 9, 2025 in Richland Christian Home, Richland, Lebanon County, where she was rehabilitating for nearly three years. She was the widow of Rufus N. Zimmerman, who died on January 24, 2023, and whom she married December 31, 1959, having recently celebrated 63 years of marriage prior to his passing.
Born in Voganville, Lancaster County, Esther was a daughter of the late J. Eby Snyder and Mary S. (Shirk) Snyder. Mrs. Zimmerman was a member of Walnuttown Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference, Fleetwood.
Mrs. Zimmerman is survived by her children: Bishop Leon S., husband of Alta N. (Nolt) Zimmerman, Mertztown; James S., husband of Karen W. (High) Zimmerman, Myerstown, Lebanon County; Arlene S. (Martin), wife of Kenneth B. Snyder, Bernville; and Miriam S. (Zimmerman), wife of John M. Hurst, Ephrata; sister, Mabel S. (Snyder), widow of Elam Horning, Leola; 23 grandchildren, 99 great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter.
In addition to her husband and parents, Esther was predeceased by a son-in-law, Leonard M. Martin; a grandson; two great-grandsons; and siblings, Anna S. (Snyder) Zimmerman, Edna S. (Snyder) Shirk, Norman S. Snyder, Aaron S. Snyder, Lena S. (Snyder) Martin, Katie S. (Snyder) Weaver, Mary S. (Snyder) Newswanger, and Paul S. Snyder.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 15, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. from Walnuttown Mennonite Church, 1219 Pleasant Hill Road, Fleetwood, with Bishop Amos G. Martin, officiating. Interment in the adjoining Walnuttown Mennonite Church Cemetery. There will a viewing from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 14, 2025, in Walnuttown Mennonite Church.
Assisting Ministry will Minister Earl B. Martin, Minister Eric O. Hoover and Minister Joseph N. Martin. Pallbearers will be Curvin Zimmerman, John Ray Hurst, Leonard Ray Martin, Burnell Snyder, Matthew Zimmerman and Nathan Zimmerman.
