Ernest V. “Pappy” Helbert, 90, formerly of Helbert Lane, Mertztown, died Sunday, March 18, 2007 in the Lutheran Home at Topton, Topton, where he had been a resident since May 1, 2006. He was the husband of the late Rachel C. (Reichert) Helbert who died on February 24, 2007.
Born in Kutztown, PA he was the son of the late Solon and Alice C. (Fisher) Helbert. He was a machine operator at the former General Seating and Sash Company, Topton, for 15 years retiring in 1984; prior to that he was a laborer at the former Fisher Saw Mill, Macungie, for 15 years. He, along with his deceased wife assisted their late son David with Helbert’s Answering Service, Mertztown, retiring in July 1997. He was a WWII veteran of the US Army Air Corps. He was a member of the Ray A. Master, Post #217, American Legion, Topton; and, he was a former President of the Topton Senior Citizens for eight years during the 1980’s. He was a member of St. John’s UCC Church, Kutztown.
He is survived by Daughters, Rebecca M. wife of William F. Truitt, Alburtis, Brenda A. wife of Richard S. Rohrbach, Bally, Alice R. wife of Dennis D. Siegfried, Kutztown; Sons, Charles F. husband of Emma C. (Smith), Mertztown, Robert P. husband of Harriet E. (Moyer), Kutztown, Stanley R. husband of Kathy J. (O’Neil), Lyon Station; 12 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren, 8 Step Great Grandchildren, 2 Great Great Granddaughters, 1 Step Great Great Grandson. He was predeceased by son David E. in 1996.
Funeral Services are Friday, March 23, 2007 at 10:30 AM in the Auditorium of the Lutheran Home at Topton, One South Home Avenue, Topton. Interment with Military Honors in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown. Friends may call Thursday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 PM Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM in the auditorium.
The family requests contributions to St. John’s UCC Church, 257 W. Walnut Street, Kutztown, PA 19530. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
