Ernest G Conrad

Ernest G. Conrad, 86, of Kutztown, died Monday, November 8, 2010 in The Lutheran Home at Topton, where he was a patient since May 2010. He was the husband Rosa C. E. (Reifinger) Conrad.

Born in East Greenville, Montgomery County, he was a son of the late Charles H. and Viola L. (Snyder) Conrad. He was an active member of Longswamp United Church of Christ, Mertztown. He was a US Navy veteran during WWII, having served in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Thomas E. Fraser (DM-24) in the following engagements, Iwo Jima, Okinawa and the mine sweep of Tokyo Harbor just prior to the Japanese surrender. He worked as a molder at the former Macungie Foundry during the late 1940’s early 1950’s. He then worked over 35 years as a melter at Carpenter Technology, Reading, until his retirement. He was a member of the USS Thomas E. Fraser Association; the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of Ray A. Master, Post 217 American Legion, Topton.

He is survived by Daughter, Eileen D. Conrad, Kenilworth, NJ; Son, Dennis R. husband of Kara V. (Symons) Conrad, Suffolk, VA. There is also a Grandson, Kevin S. Adams, Blandon; 3 Great Grandchildren, Ashlyn P, Sheila B., and Kevin S., Jr. Adams. Other survivors include a Brother, Raymond husband of Doris (Jakoby) Conrad, Pennsburg; half sisters, Dorothy (Graber) wife of Harold Bartholomew, Powder Valley, Lehigh County, Mary (Graber) widow of Edwin Houseknecht, Perkiomenville and Rose Marie (Graber) wife of Asher Kimmel, Pennsburg; and a Half Brother, Charles Graber, Jr., Massachusetts. He was predeceased by a Daughter, Sheila B. (Conrad) Adams who died on January 14, 2004; Sisters, Ruth (Conrad) Lesher, Martha Marie (Conrad) Leister and a Half Sister, Jean (Graber) Krauss.

Funeral Services are Saturday, November 13, 2010, 11:00 AM at Longswamp U.C.C. Church, 200 Clay Road, Mertztown. Interment with Military Honors provided by Ray A. Master Post 217, American Legion, Topton in Longswamp Union Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the church.
