Elton G. Meitzler, 82, of Kutztown died suddenly on Thursday, October 16, 2014, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, of natural causes. He was the widower of Goldie M. (Kern) Meitzler, who died December 26, 1994 .

Born in Maxatawny Township , he was a son of the late George N. Meitzler and Arline (Bailey) Weitzel.  Elton was a US Army veteran with service during the Korean Conflict.  As a child and teenager, Elton helped work on the family farm. Elton went on to become a welder at Dana Corporation's Parish Division, Reading, from the mid-1950's to early 1960's. During that time he started his own business, Meitzler Hauling & Excavating, Kutztown, which he continued to operate until August 2013 .

Mr. Meitzler continued farming, with the purchase of the family farm. Elton was well known in the racing circles in the area, as a racing enthusiast, historian and former owner and operator of Kutztown Fairgrounds Speedway, Kutztown, from 2000 to 2012. Mr. Meitzler was a lifetime member of Checkered Flag Fan Club, Kutztown, and Reading Stock Car Association Historical Society, Reading. Elton was also a member of Kutztown Rod & Gun Club, Kutztown, and enjoyed hunting. Mr. Meitzler was a member of Old Time Plow Boys Club, Kutztown, and was a Farmall Tractor buff. His love of Farmall tractors and their red colored paint reflected in other things of Elton's, he always drove a red pickup truck, and he owned many a red dump truck for his business. "If it ain't red, leave it in the shed."

Mr. Meitzler was a voracious reader, reading the entire Reading Eagle daily. He also subscribed to and read over 30 magazines cover-to-cover every month. He often amazed his children and grandchildren with the knowledge he had gained from his insatiable appetite for reading.

He is survived by Daughter, Sherry L. (Meitzler) wife of Ted W. Stump, Kutztown; Sons, Kerry L. Meitzler, Kutztown and Terry E. husband of Karen L. (Schumaker) Meitzler, Kutztown.  Other survivors include a Sister, Anna Mae (Meitzler) Martin, Kokomo, Ind., and Grandchildren, Janelle M. Stump, Addison T. husband of Katrina E. (Allendorfer) Meitzler, Shelby E. (Stump) wife of Jacob E. Schuster, Kailey L. Meitzler and Britney A. Meitzler; Great Grandchildren, Madelyn A. Meitzler and Tanner Z. Schuster. He was predeceased by Brother, Leroy H. Meitzler who died February 28, 2013 .

Funeral Services will he held on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at 10:30 AM from Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, with Reverend Jane M. Kropa, officiating. Interment in Zion Maxatawny Union Cemetery, Kutztown. Friends may call Tuesday evening, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and Wednesday, from 10:00 to 10:30 AM in the funeral home .
