Ellen Rice

Ellen (Reich) Rice, 88, of New Jerusalem, Rockland Township, died Friday, March 2, 2012 in Kutztown Manor Nursing Home, Kutztown, where she was a patient since February 26, 2012.

Born in Reading, she was the last of nine children born to Henry and Sarah (Wentzel) Reich. Ellen attended both Wyomissing and Governor Mifflin High Schools graduating from the latter. She studied cosmetology at Wilfred Academy, Philadelphia. Ellen went on to work at Pomeroys, then from the early 50s thru 1960 worked at the Towne Shop on North 5th Street. During the summer months she worked at Galen Hall Hotel. In 1961 Ellen opened her own shop Coiffeur Chateau in Wyomissing. During the 1960s she also modeled for Pollack Furs. In 1970 she was named director of Bryland Schools of Beauty in Reading, Norristown and Coatesville. She was later a technician in the Revlon School of Hair Coloring, New York City, and was with the Tuner Hall Corporation, London, England, specializing in permanent waving. From the late 1970s through the late 1990s Ellen worked in California at San Diegos Del Coronado Hotel and for Aida Grey in Encino.

She is survived by her Son, Sean Michael Rice, Fleetwood; Nieces, Dianne Ostrich, Robesonia, Joan Blimline, Wyomissing and Nephews, Terry Von Neida, Shillington and Craig Schollenberger, Reading.

There will be no services. Her ashes will be scattered to the wind.
