Elizabeth Jane Bordner

Elizabeth Jane “Aunt Betty” Bordner, 87, of Macungie, died Saturday, December 25, 2010 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

Born in Kutztown, she was a daughter of the late George C. and Mary M. (Berger) Bordner. Elizabeth graduated from Kutztown High School in 1940 and went on to continue her education at Kutztown University, graduating in 1945 with high honors with a bachelor degree in library science. She further pursued her education by receiving her Master of Arts degree from Lehigh University in 1952. Elizabeth was employed as an elementary school head librarian by Bethlehem School District until her retirement. She was also a member of the Grand Chapter of the Pennsylvania Order of the Eastern Star, for over 75 years.

“Aunt Betty” is to be remembered as a woman who led a full life between her love of her family, her job, as well as her passion to play tennis and golf, along with being an avid crafter.

Aunt Betty is survived by Nieces, Rebecca Herman, Georgianne Bordner, Gretchen (Bordner) Bender, and Jennifer (Bordner) Goodyear, and Nephews, Steven Bordner and David Bordner. She is also survived by several great nieces and nephews along with several great great nephews. Aunt Betty is predeceased by 11 older brothers and sisters.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 1:00 PM in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown. There will be no calling hours. The family requests contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association, 419 Washington Street, Reading, PA 19601. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
