Edwin W Conrath

Edwin W. Conrath, Jr., 81, of Mertztown, died Friday, September 5, 2014 in the inpatient hospice unit of Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Patricia Ann (Herman) Conrath. They were married October 24, 1953.

Born in Salisbury Township, Lehigh Co., he was a son of the late Edwin W., Sr., and Daisy M. (Rhinesmith) Conrath. Mr. Conrath was a member of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church, Mertztown. He was a United States Army veteran, serving as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division during the Korean War. Mr. Conrath was a 1951 graduate of Kutztown Area High School. He was employed as an electrician by Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., Trexlertown, for 31 years, retiring in 1998. He was also a self employed electrician for many years. Edwin was a member of Ray A. Master Post 217, American Legion, Topton, and a former member and past president of the Topton Jaycees. An avid fisherman, Edwin was also a member of the Alburtis Nimrod Fish and Wildlife Association, Inc., and Mertztown Rod and Gun Club. Edwin was a member of the Lyons Fire Company where he formerly played on their softball team. He also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles.

He is survived by Wife, Daughter, Tammy L. (Conrath) Geisinger, and Son, Chris A. Conrath, both of Mertztown. He is also survived by a Sister, Joyce A. (Conrath) Richards, Mertztown, and a grand dog, Windsor .

Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at 7:00 PM in Saint Paul's Lutheran Church, 50 Luther Drive, Mertztown, with Reverend Jeremiah A. Sassaman officiating. Military honors will be rendered immediately following the service. Inurnment will be private. Relatives and friends may call Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 PM in the church.
