Edith G. Shafer

Edith G. (Mengel) Shafer, 84, passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2026, in her residence. She was formerly of Breinigsville. She was the widow of Carl H. Shafer who died on October 15, 2025, and whom she married on August 2, 1994.

Born in Centerport, Berks County, Edith was a daughter of the late Harry A.D. Mengel and Pearl K. (Adam) Mengel. She was employed by the former Katos Sportswear Co., Kutztown, Sunsweet Growers, Inc., Fleetwood, and Polar Plastics, Fogelsville. Most recently, Edith worked as a Houskeeper at The Lutheran Home at Topton, for 13 years until her retirement.

Edith enjoyed camping, playing games and puzzles. Above all she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Edith is survived by her five children, Jeffrey Moss, Topton, Jody Moss, Sr., Kutztown, Tammy Moss, Mohrsville, Tonia Cruz, Mohrsville, and Wanda Haberstump, Philadelphia; sister, Ruthann Mengel, Reading; and brothers Richard Mengel, Breinigsville and Milton Mengel, Lyon Station; 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Along with her husband and parents, Edith was predeceased by three grandchildren, Nicole Moss, Daniel Moss and Travis Moss.

Services for Edith will be held privately by her family.
