Mrs. Dorothy J. Fox

June 1, 1939 — January 16, 2024

Dorothy J. (Reidenhour) Fox, 84, passed from this world into heaven on January 16, 2024, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Dorothy was born in June 1939, in Maxatawny Township, Pennsylvania. Her parents were the late Robert D. Reidenhour and Arlene D. (Miller) Reidenhour, both of German ancestry. Dorothy was baptized at Zion’s Lutheran Congregation in Maxatawny Township. A few months after Dorothy’s birth, her family moved to 163 West Walnut Street in Kutztown. Dorothy was confirmed at St. Paul’s Evangelical and Reformed Church in Kutztown, Pennsylvania.

Dorothy, known to her family and friends as Dolly, attended elementary school at the Kutztown State College Laboratory School, speaking only Pennsylvania German at the start of her school years. Dorothy graduated from Kutztown Area High School in 1957.

After graduating from high school, Dorothy worked at the Kutztown Shoe Factory on Greenwich Street as a book keeper/accountant, a short walk down the hill from her family’s home on the lower half of West Walnut Street.

On December 21, 1957, Dorothy was married to William N. Fox at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Kutztown by the Reverend Robert F. Harting. After their marriage, Dorothy continued working at the Kutztown Shoe Factory. Dorothy and William moved into an apartment on upper West Main Street in Kutztown for their first few years after their marriage.

Dorothy continued her career as a book keeper for other local businesses including the George W. Brubaker Oil Company, several local accountants and Lane’s / Kings department stores in Kutztown. In the early 1960’s, Dorothy and William moved to the upper half of West Walnut Street and they purchased a home at 436 West Walnut and they lived there together until William’s passing in 2019.

Throughout Dolly and Bill’s 61 1 ⁄ 2 years of marriage, they enjoyed various activities together. They loved dancing, from waltzes to country line dancing. They traveled to many places on family vacations, escorted tours and cruises. The front porch of their home was often decorated for the holidays. Dolly and Bill could often be found sitting in their rocking chairs on their front porch, talking with their neighbors and passersby. Together, Dolly and Bill searched yard sales and auctions for antique Kutztown memorabilia, amassing a large quantity of historic items.

Dolly sat on several Kutztown Borough Committees and Kutztown College/University committees as a way to serve her community. Dolly was a poll worker for many years in the Kutztown voting precincts.

Dolly enjoyed spending time with her family and the people in her neighborhood. She enjoyed building jigsaw puzzles, watching tv and going out to eat. After Bill’s passing, Dolly moved out of Kutztown to live next to her daughter and son-in-law in Maxatawny Township.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Kathy N. (Fox) Kemp, wife of Donald L. (Butch) Kemp, Kutztown; her grandson, Kristopher N. Kemp, husband of Maria A. (Tamayo) Kemp; and her great grandchildren, Bradley A. Kemp and Nicole A. Kemp, Kutztown. She is also survived by her sister, Sandra (Reidenhour) Muth, widow of Donald Muth, Kutztown.
