Doris Ida (Scheirer) Rauenzahn, 86, of Pawleys Island, South Carolina, passed away Saturday, August 25, 2012, in Garden City, SC. She was the wife of Raymond A. Rauenzahn. They celebrated 64 years of marriage this past June.
Born in Lynn Township, Lehigh Co., she was a daughter of the late Earl Edward Leroy and Florence May (Bartholomew) Scheirer. Doris graduated in 1948 from Allentown School of Nursing as a registered nurse and worked as an operating nurse at Holy Redeemer Hospital outside of Philadelphia, PA. Active in community service throughout her life, she was a Den Mother, Girl Scout leader, Women’s Club president, member of Eastern Star, and volunteered at the Salvation Army. Doris and Ray retired from Willow Grove, PA to Allentown, PA and then on to Fort Meyers, FL and four years ago moved to Pawleys Island, South Carolina.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Raymond Alvin Rauenzahn, devoted mother of David Scott, husband of Nancy Rauenzahn, Ocean City, NJ, Dale Robin, husband of Gail Rauenzahn, Baltimore, MD, Doray (Rauenzahn), wife of Charles Mattocks, Myrtle Beach, SC, and Donna (Rauenzahn) Whitney, Highlands Ranch, CO. She was also a loving grandmother of eight; and great grandmother of one. Doris was predeceased by her Brother, Albert James Scheirer and his wife Elizabeth Minnie (Garris) Scheirer.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, November 23, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the Ludwick Funeral Home, 25 East Weis Street, Topton. Inurnment in Union Cemetery of Bowers. Friends are invited to call Friday from 1:00 to 2:00 PM in the funeral home.
The family requests contributions be made to the Salvation Army, 144 North 8th Street, Allentown, PA 18101. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Topton, PA.
