Doreen Ellen Houptley

Doreen Ellen (Epting) Houptley, 67, of Luther Meadows, Topton, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026 in Tower Health - Reading Hospital and Medical Center, West Reading, just eleven days shy of her 68th birthday. She was the wife of Leroy Paul Houptley whom she married on February 23, 1980.

Born in West Reading, PA, Doreen was a daughter of the late George and Sadie (Bausher) Epting and was raised on a farm near Onyx Cave. She was a graduate of Hamburg Area High School, where she was a member of the track and field team. Doreen was a homemaker who took great pride in raising her family. Most recently, Doreen was employed as a baker by Weis Markets in Kutztown for 15 years prior to her retirement. A dedicated baker, Doreen poured her heart into her work, sharing her culinary delights with her community and family. Her passion for baking was not only a profession but a way to express her love for those around her, creating sweet moments that will forever be remembered. Her warm smile, infectious laughter, and generous spirit made every day brighter for everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Doreen was a member of Christ (Mertz) Lutheran Church in Dryville for many years.

Along with her husband of nearly 46 years, Leroy, Doreen is survived by her two sons, Matthew G. Houptley, Topton, and Keith P., husband of Melissa B. (Lester) Houptley, Kutztown; two grandchildren, David Houptley and Kaitlyn Houptley; and sister, Janet (Epting) Schlegel.

Along with her parents, Doreen was predeceased by her siblings, Joyce Epting, Glenn Epting, Mark Epting, Carl Epting and Nevin Epting in infancy.

A funeral service to celebrate and honor Doreen's life will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. in Christ (Mertz) Lutheran Church, 16 Fleetwood Road, Fleetwood, PA with The Reverend Martin Milne officiating. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, Fleetwood (Dryville). Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. in the church.

The family requests contributions be made in Doreen's memory to Christ (Mertz) Lutheran Church, 16 Fleetwood Road, Fleetwood, PA 19522.
