Donald E. "Flip" Phillips, 92, of Rockland Township, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2026 in The Residence at Village Greens, Sinking Spring. He was the widower of Shirley E. (Trexler) Phillips, whom he married on July 6, 1957, and who passed away on July 1, 2024.
Born in Reading, PA, Donald was a son of the late Edward and Irene L. (Manmiller) Phillips and was a 1951 graduate of Kutztown Area High School. Following his high school graduation, Donald honorably and faithfully served his country in The United States Navy during the Korean War. Donald was employed as a press operator by Dana Corporation, Reading, for many years. After his retirement, Donald worked for Weaver's Hardware, Fleetwood, PA, where he was known as "Don the Man."
Don enjoyed woodworking, camping, and watching birds. He was also a diehard Philadelphia Phillies fan and enjoyed NASCAR racing. He also was a member of the pit crew for Daniel Readinger's #86 car at Grandview Speedway.
Donald will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and the genuine joy he found in the company of family and friends. He possessed an unwavering spirit that inspired those around him, and his laughter will echo in the memories cherished by his loved ones. As we gather to honor a life well-lived, we celebrate not only the man he was but also the love and lessons he imparted to those closest to him.
Donald is survived by his five children, Tina M. (Phillips), widow of Thomas R. Levan, Fleetwood, Donna I. (Phillips), wife of Russ L. Bower, Macungie, Debbie L. (Phillips), wife of Blake J. Steffy, Fleetwood, Dave E., husband of Lynn L. (Kern) Phillips, Fleetwood, and Peggy L. (Phillips), wife of David G. Moyer, Jr., Fleetwood; 10 grandchildren, Amy B. (Levan), wife of Rich Pinsk, Joel D., husband of Jen (Chwaszczewski) Levan, Elliot B., husband of Courtney (Freese) Steffy, Logan J., husband of Bridgette (Colon) Steffy, Ian C. Steffy, Amanda L. (Phillips), wife of Jim Renninger, Tiffany A. (Phillips), wife of Steven Ziegler, Angela E. (Phillips) Ferreri, Malorie E. (Moyer), wife of James Hinrichs, and Wyatt D. Moyer; 12 great-grandchildren, Samuel L. Pinsk, Willa M. Pinsk, Julianna R. Levan, Lydia E. Levan, Waylon B. Steffy, Nora A. Steffy, Larson T. Steffy, Louisa J. Steffy, Colten J. Renninger, Brody J. Renninger, Riley E. Ferreri, and Brinley G. Ferreri; brother, Richard, husband of Marge Phillips, Catasauqua; and brother-in-law, Daniel Readinger.
Along with the love of his life, Shirley, and his parents, Donald was predeceased by a grandson and his two sisters, Joan (Phillips) Readinger and Jane (Phillips) Boyer and her husband, Henry.
A funeral service to celebrate and honor Donald's life will be held on Monday, May 11, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in Christ (Mertz) Lutheran Church, 16 Fleetwood Road, Fleetwood, PA with The Reverend Martin A. Milne officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by The United States Navy and Ray A. Master Post 217, American Legion Honor Guard, Topton, PA, will follow in the adjoining Hope Cemetery (Dryville). Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. in the church.
