Donald R. Keim, Sr.

December 15, 1933 — August 24, 2025

Mertztown, PA

Donald R. Keim, 91, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2025. He was the widower of Patricia (Fritchman) Keim, who died June 2018. They were married for 65 wonderful years.

Born in 1933 in Washington, DC to the late Roy and Winifred (Fehnel) Keim, Donald was the eldest of six siblings, all of whom preceded him in death. He was also predeceased by his son, Donald Keim II, in 2023.

From a young age, Donald embodied responsibility and hard work, starting his career as an electrician at 17. He was a member of IBEW Local 375, and worked for 42 years for Orlando Diefenderfer Electrical, until his retirement in 1996. Donald, along with his wife, owned Hilltop House Antiques in Mertztown, PA, selling jewelry and antiques at the Kutztown Folk Festival and many other venues in Berks and Lehigh Counties.

Following the birth of his first grandchild, Donald became "Poppy," a name that defined the role he cherished most. His greatest pride was his family: late son Donald (Sandi) Keim; daughter Susan (Kevin) Blake; grandchildren Carolyn (Matt) Brakey, Christopher (Lindsey) Scott, William (Kelly) Keim, and Kristin (Matthew) Blake; and great grandchildren Conner, Brooke, Beatrix, Grover, Breckin, and Benson.

Donald is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.

Donald will be remembered for his laughter, tireless work, and above all, love for family. He leaves behind a legacy of joy, generosity, and devotion that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

At Donald's request there will be no formal services. A joint burial will be held at Longswamp Union Ceremony, Mertztown. In his honor, donations can be made to Friends of Brandywine, P.O. Box 85, Mertztown, PA 19539.
