Donald H. Hoppes, 75, of Boyertown, died Sunday, November 24, 2013 in his residence.
Born in Topton, he was a son of the late Earl A. and Anna Mildred "Midge" (Bergey) Hoppes. Mr. Hoppes was a 1956 graduate of Kutztown Area High School. He was a United States Navy veteran. Mr. Hoppes was employed as a clerk by the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare for three years, working with Bloomsburg University. He also worked as an administrator for The LiHeap Program. Prior to that, he was employed for over 10 years by the Pennsylvania Department of Energy. He was a member of Irem Shrine, Dallas, PA, where he served as Potentate in 2004. He was also a member of Oriental Lodge No. 460, F.&A.M., Orangeville, Columbia Co., and Ray A. Master Post 217, American Legion, Topton. Mr. Hoppes participated in transporting children and their families to Shriners Hospitals for Children in Philadelphia, PA, and Boston, MA. He enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren and hunting with "The Old Guys."
He is survived by Daughters, Wendy J. (Hoppes) Houlik, Breinigsville, and Mitzi K. (Hoppes), wife of Byron T. Lee, with whom he resided; Brothers, Earl A. "Deet", husband of Bonnie J. (Scherer) Hoppes, Macungie, and Robert R. "Bobby", husband of Ginger L. (Goll) Hoppes, Bowers; 4 Grandsons, Zachary Houlik, Kyle Lee, Chaz Houlik, and Tanner Lee.
Graveside Services, and inurnment with military honors, will be held Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the Ray A. Master Post 217, American Legion, Garden of Honor, 133 Centre Avenue, Topton. A gathering with the family will take place immediately following the service in the Legion's Social Hall. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Ray A. Master Post 217, American Legion, 133 Centre Avenue, Topton, PA 19562. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Topton, PA.
