Donald A. Buchman, 78, formerly of Kutztown, died surrounded by his loving family Monday, September 20, 2010 in Easton Nursing Center, Easton where he was a resident since October 2007. He was the husband of the late Diana D. (DeRagon) Buchman who died September 3, 2000. His first wife, Marilyn (Stankins) Buchman died in 1982.
Born in Kutztown, he was a son of the late Ammon T. and Hettie M. (Trout) Buchman. He was a 1949 graduate of Kutztown Area High School and was a member of the state championship basketball team. He attended Kutztown University, Kutztown, and Lafayette College, Easton. Donald was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Kutztown where he was a past president of the Church Consistory, an Elder and a former member of the choir. He was employed by Atlas Minerals and Chemicals, Mertztown, as a plant manager for 40 years retiring in 1992.
Donald was the Mayor of the Borough of Kutztown from 1969 to 1977. He was a member and past president of the Kutztown Rotary receiving the Paul Harris Award. He was also a member and a past president of Kutztown Jaycee’s receiving the JCI Senator Award #7702, a member and past president of the Parent’s Club of Kutztown and a member of Huguenot Lodge #377 F.&A.M., Kutztown. Donald was a member of Cougar Tale, Kutztown.
He is survived by Daughter, Allyson A. (Buchman) Tolland, Sinking Spring; Son, Glenn C. husband of Alice K. (Knorr) Buchman, Reading; Sister, Betty J. (Buchman) widow of Ralph Toberman, Audubon, Montgomery County. He is also survived by 4 Grandchildren, Gary K. Buchman, Elizabeth K., Madelyn C. and Nicholas R. Tolland. He was predeceased by a Son, Timothy D. Buchman in 1983 and a Daughter Dona A. Buchman in 1967. He was also predeceased by a Brother, George R. Buchman.
Funeral Services are Friday, September 24, 2010 at 10:30 AM from the Ludwick Funeral Home, 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, 19530. Interment in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown. Friends may call Thursday from 7:00 to 8:30 PM in the funeral home.
