Mrs. Domenica Settembre

Domenica (Saladino) Settembre, 88, of Kutztown, and formerly of Buchanan, NY, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2024 at Lehigh Valley In-Patient Hospice, Allentown. She was the widow of Sabato Settembre who died on May 17, 1992.

Born in Rome, Italy, Domenica was a daughter of the late Domenico and Rosa (Caprino) Saladino. Domenica worked as a seamstress and later in life, worked for a florist where she combined her creativity with a love for beautiful arrangements. She was a homemaker who enjoyed taking care of her home and raising a family. A devout Catholic, Domenica enjoyed watching Mass on television every day and saying the rosary each morning and afternoon.

Domenica, known to many as “Nonnie”, was your typical old-school Italian mother and grandmother doing everything possible for her loved ones and her family was her greatest treasure. The family table was her sanctuary and Domenica will always be remembered for her cooking, especially her delicious homemade pizza, pasta fagioli, perfectly cooked meatballs and her lasagna always baked with love.

Domenica is survived by her two daughters, Matilda Settembre, companion of Thomas Beers, Macungie, PA, and Rose Settembre, companion of Robert Fry, Kutztown, PA; and three grandsons, Stephen Lomei, Alexander Lomei, husband of Robin, and Benjamin Lomei. Along with her husband and parents, Domenica was predeceased by a daughter, Irene (Settembre) Kovacs on February 11, 1991; and three siblings, Rossario Saladino, Nicola Saladino, and Graziella (Saladino) Vasta.

A viewing will be held on Monday, March 25, 2024 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in Yorktown Funeral Home, 945 East Main Street, Shrub Oak, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 25, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in Church of the Assumption, 131 Union Avenue, Peekskill, NY. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery, Cortlandt, NY.
