David W. Deturk, 65, of Fairview Drive, Kutztown (Kutztown Borough), died Monday, March 21, 2005, in the family residence. He was the husband of Merrily J. (Leibensperger) DeTurk, they were married September 30, 1961.
Born in Kutztown, PA, he was the son of the late Chester R. and the late Pauline E. “Polly” (Hiester) DeTurk. He was a heavy equipment operator for W. E. Yoder, Inc., Kutztown, for over 42 years, retiring in March 2002. He then worked part time for Hunter – Keystone, New Smithville, Lehigh County from 2002 until 2004. He was a 1958 graduate of Kutztown Area High School and a 1958 graduate of the former Greer Technical Institute, Indiana, with a diploma in Heavy Equipment Operations. He was a member of Saint John’s Lutheran Church, Kutztown, where he served several terms on Church council and was a member of the Property, Pulpit, and Finance Committees. He was a member of Huguenot Lodge #377, F. & A. M., Kutztown, Scottish Rite, Reading, and Kutztown Temple Association. He was also a member of Kutztown Fire Company, No. 1, Kutztown, Kutztown Historical Society, Kutztown, Kutztown Rod & Gun Club, Kutztown, United Racing Club. In addition, he was a lifetime member of International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 542. Mr. DeTurk as served the past 15 years on the Kutztown Borough Planning Commission, Kutztown.
He is survived by Wife, Daughters, Kimberly A. (DeTurk) Miller, Blandon (Maidencreek Twp.), Amy E. (DeTurk) Koenig, Kutztown; Sister, Marcia F. (DeTurk) Keiser, Kutztown (Maxatawny Twp.); 6 Grandchildren.
Funeral Services are Thursday, March 24, 2005, at 10:30 AM from Saint John’s Lutheran Church, 201 East Main Street, Kutztown. Interment in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown. Friends may call Wednesday, 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Ludwick Funeral Home, 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, and Thursday, 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM in the church. Masonic Services are Wednesday, at 8:30 PM.
Flowers may be sent or contributions may be made to memorial fund of the church, 19530, or American Cancer Society, 498 Bellevue Avenue, Reading, 19605. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
