David T. “Dave” DiGiacinto, 61, of Bethlehem, died suddenly, on January 25, 2015 at his home. He was born in Bethlehem son of Anne (Nehilla) DiGiacinto, of Bethlehem and the late Dante P. DiGiacinto.
Dave graduated from Liberty High School in 1971, and United States Military Academy at West Point in 1975. He played football at West Point for three years and his senior year he played baseball. Dave attended every Army/Navy Football game since graduating from West Point. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force upon graduation, entered and completed pilot training in 1975-1976, was promoted to 1st Lt. in 1977, Captain in 1979, and then became a Pilot. He served as a Crew Commander on a KC135. He left the Air Force in 1981, worked as a pilot for a commercial jet charter company for one year before accepting his first position with Pfizer Pharmaceutical in 1982.
Dave held several commercial and general manager positions at Pfizer, Inc., working with two operating divisions both internationally and domestically. He was Senior Managing Director at Spencer Trask Specialty Group, President and COO of Minrad International, where he raised 40 million in capital, restructured the company and eventually sold it to Piramal Healthcare. In 2009, Dave became Executive Vice-President and General Manager at National Pretzel Company, which was sold to Con Agra, where he remained a Vice President.
He was a member of the Board of Directors of Axion Power International, Inc. from 2014 to present, served on Bethlehem City Council from 2007-2014, Controller of the City of Bethlehem 2014 to present, Business Advisor of Gussmer Enterprises, Inc. from 2007 to present, Managing Director of Colmen Group 2013 to present, member of Board of Directors of Vyteris 2000-2011, President and Chief Executive Officer of Bethny Enterprise, Inc 2005-present.
He served on the Boys and Girls Club of Bethlehem and was a member of the Order of AHEPA.
Dave will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and the City of Bethlehem, a place he grew up, loved, and served in official and unofficial capacities for most of his life.
Dave is survived by his Son, Luke DiGiacinto of Bethlehem; his Mother, Anne DiGiacinto of Bethlehem; Sister, Sally Horan, wife of Brian; Nephew, Brian Patrick and Niece, Caitlin Danielle all of Dallas, Texas; his former Wife, Kelly (Collins) DiGiacinto of Bethlehem.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 11:00 AM in St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 450 W. Washington Avenue, Bethlehem, There will be a viewing on Friday evening, January 30, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the John F. Herron Funeral Home 458 Center At Market Street in Bethlehem; and Saturday morning from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM in the Church. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem.
The family requests contributions be made to The Boys and Girls Club of Bethlehem 1430 Fritz Drive Bethlehem, PA 18017. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
