David K Christman

David Kohler Christman, born on May 9, 1936 in Maxatawny Twp., Berks County, died Sunday, February 28, 2010 at home surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late Herbert and Mary Alice (Kohler) Christman. He was married on December 6, 1958 to Sarah “Millie” (Fox). They resided in Weisenberg Township for 40 years where they raised their six daughters. “His callous hands told the story for this small town country man. He stood for Uncle Sam and he only loved one woman and he was proud of what he had. He said his greatest contribution is the ones he left behind” - his wife, six daughters and ten grandchildren. He proudly and honorably served in the U.S. Army at Ft. Knox, KY, from 1953 to 1956. He and his wife were the owner/operators of David K. Christman Trash Removal and Christman Septic Service from 1970 to 1984. He was a member of the Kutztown Legion and the Disabled American Veterans. Everyone who knew David knew of his generosity to all, sense of humor, practical jokes and love of traveling – memorable family trips to 49 of the 50 states focusing on national parks and historical places; Additionally with his wife to South America, Mexico, Canada and Europe.

He is survived by Wife of 51 years Millie, Daughters; Cheryl, wife of Nadir Shuja, Harrisburg, Jacqueline wife of Ed McGuire, Holtsville, NY, Elizabeth Christman and Ken Danforth, Dallas, TX, Katrina wife of Jim Cartwright, New Tripoli, Sharon, wife of Patrick Hodges, Newport News, VA, Carole wife of Russell Peden, Yorktown, VA; Grandchildren, Amy and Brock Cartwright, David, Kyle, Allison, Tanner, Brett and Luke Hodges, Alexandria and Isabella Peden; Sisters, Anita Bastian, Robesonia, Jannetta Metz, Emmaus, Dorothy Phillips, Myerstown, Carole wife of Harry Koch, Allentown; and beloved dog Lili. He was predeceased by Sisters, Mary Alice Dries and Gladys Bleiler and Brothers, Lester and Paul Christman.

Funeral Services are Friday, March 5, 2010 at 10:30 AM in the Ludwick Funeral Home, 333 Greenwich St, Kutztown, Patrick Hodges officiating. Interment with Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post #217 Honor Guard, Topton in Zion Maxatawny Union Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 9:00 to 10:30 AM.
