Clarence S. Schaeffer

Clarence S. Schaeffer, 89, of Maxtawny Township, died Friday, September 18, 2026, in Willow Brook Nursing and Rehabilitation, Kutztown. He was the widow of Barbara F. (Fritzinger) Schaeffer, whom he married April 27, 1968 and who died on January 28, 2022.

Born in New Ringgold, Schuylkill County, Clarence was a son of the late Francis T. Schaeffer and Dorothy (Woodring) Schaeffer - Blasko. Mr. Schaeffer honorably and faithfully served our country in the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War. Clarence was employed as a truck driver for Wayne Wessner, Inc. and Clifford Hill Sanitation, both of Kutztown. Following his retirement in 2008, Clarence was employed as a school bus driver for Van Lear Bus Co.

He was a member of the American Legion and Zion's Union Church of Maxatawny. Clarence enjoyed woodworking and decorating his home for the holidays. Clarence was a fan of NASCAR racing and never missed a race. One of Clarence's highlights was a ride-along in a race car on the infamous Monster-Mile track at Dover Motor Speedway, Dover, DE, gifted to him by his family. An experience he talked about long after it occurred.

Clarence is survived by his children, Robert J. Schaeffer, Fleetwood, Stanley G. Schaeffer, Fleetwood, and Tammy W. (Schaeffer), wife of Christopher L. Hamm, Kempton; grandchildren, Kimberly, Joshua, David and Ivana Schaeffer, Melissa and Darrel Rothermel, and Cordero Hamm; and great-granddaughter, Rose M. Schaeffer.

He is also survived by his sisters, Ethel Mae (Blasko), widow of Ronald Hurley, Manahawken, NJ, Anna Blasko, Coaldale, PA, and Helen (Blasko), widow of Lewis Weis, Pottsville, PA; and brothers, Russell Schaeffer, Pine Grove, PA, and John Blasko, Schuylkill Haven, PA.

Along with his wife and parents, Clarence was predeceased by his siblings, Philis (Woodring) Hamlin, Elizabeth (Schaeffer) Miller, and Francis Schaeffer.

A funeral service to honor and celebrate Clarence's life will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes and Cremation Care, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, with The Reverend Melissa Burkhart, officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Fleetwood. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Thursday morning from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home.
