Clair D Stump

Clair D. Stump, 64, a former resident of Evans Retirement Center, Fleetwood, Parkside Manor, Stevens, PA and formerly of Kutztown, died Tuesday, August 18, 2015 in Laurel Center Genesis ElderCare, Hamburg.

Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Herbert W. and Lovie E. (Kline) Stump. Mr. Stump was a member of Saint John's Lutheran Church, Kutztown. Clair was a 1969 graduate of Kutztown Area High School. Teachers were still remembering Clair and speaking fondly of him when his sister-in-law, Amanda began her teaching career at Kutztown in 1970. He worked at Threshold Rehabilitation Services, Inc., Reading, for several years. Clair was a good, kind man, a gentle soul who loved to greet people. One of his nieces, Nikki once remarked when she was a little girl that "she didn't think he had a mean bone in his body." Until he was no longer ambulatory, Clair would spend all major holidays with his family which he loved. He enjoyed eating Penna Dutch cooking and always said "thank you, that was delicious!" He also said the blessing before each meal, mentioning the Pilgrims at Thanksgiving. He loved dancing, listening to music and watching sports on TV. He would name all the singers and groups of the oldies and what year the song was written as well as being able to sing them, if you wanted. Not a Christmas went by that he didn't sing a capella, "Oh, Holy Night," then apologize for having trouble with the "high notes." What a "Stump" voice he had! Clair was loved by all his nieces, and his nephew, who, in turn, loved him and found him very entertaining. One time, he broke out laughing for no reason, and we all cracked up, too! When asked why he was laughing (when we all could speak!) he said, "Oh, it's just the HUMOR in me!" All his grandnieces, loved him, too! Clair was a wonderful unique individual. We all will miss him very much. The family would like to thank all of the great caregivers who made his life comfortable.

He is survived by Brother, Dr. Ronald B., husband of Carol A. (Neuin) Stump, Wyomissing, and their children, Lisa A. (Stump), wife of Jacob Pine, parents of Ruby and Sadie also, Julie Stump and her fiancé David Figueroa, and their daughter, Dorothea; Brother, Barry W., husband of Amanda J. (Skilton) Stump, Oley, and their children, Darin C., husband of Kara M. (Mack) Stump, parents of Lucinda, also, Nicole A. (Stump), wife of Stephen P. Kline, parents of Greta Lovie and Ellis Jules, also, Shannon E. (Stump), wife of Jeffrey N. Reese. Clair was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Lovie.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 28, 2015 at 11:00 AM in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, with The Reverend Mary Ann Hamm officiating. Interment will follow in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown. Relatives and friends may call Friday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the funeral home.
