Charlotte E. de Haan, age 79, of 8 Weber Drive, Topton PA, died Thursday, August 9, 2001 in her home. She was the Wife of Herman P. de Haan, Sr. The couple celebrated their 52nd Wedding Anniversary this past July.
Born in Jersey City NJ, she was the Daughter of the late William B. J. and Ethel A. (Wiemeyer) Reitze. She was a School Teacher in the Reception Grade (similar to Kindergarten) at Piscataway School, Piscataway NJ. She taught for 6 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Topton, where she also was serving as the Chairperson of the Quilting Group for the past two years. From 1940 to 1957 she was the Organist at Ascension Lutheran Church, Warren Township NJ. She also served as Secretary of the Church Council of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Chatam, NJ for 10 years.
She was currently serving as chairperson of the Hospitality Committee of the Luther Haven Resident's Association of the Lutheran Home at Topton, for the past two (2) years. She was a member of the National Honor Society while attending high school. She was Chaplain for Mount Bethel NJ, Grange for over 5 years. She was also Chaplain and Matron of Honor for Pomona Grange, Sommerset County NJ for over 5 years. She was a Girl Scout Leader and Cub Scout Den Mother in Morris County NJ. She was Initiator and Curator of the Museum of the Chatham Township (NJ) Historical Society from 1982 to 1992. She was Co-President of the Chatham Township (NJ) Historical Society from 1978 to 1982 She was a 1944 graduate of Jersey City State College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education.
She is survived by her Husband; Son, Herman P. de Haan, Jr. of Kutztown; Daughter, Ruth M. (de Haan) Schoenleber of Corapolis PA; Brother, William B. Reitze of Littleton CO; and 3 Grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, August 13, 2001, from Trinity Lutheran Church, Home Avenue and East Smith Street, Topton. Friends may call Sunday 7:00 PM to 8:30 AM at the Ludwick Funeral Homes, 25 East Weis Street, Topton, and Monday 9:30 AM to 10:15 AM in the Church. Interment in Topton Union Cemetery, Topton.
