Mrs. Charlotte Ann Valuska

April 18, 1936 — June 28, 2024

Charlotte Ann (Nelson) Valuska, wife of 62 years to David Valuska passed away on June 27, 2024, at the Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest, Allentown, PA. Charlotte was born on April 18, 1936, in South Orange, NJ. and was the daughter of Neva and Andrew Nelson, and sister of Andrew (Andy) Nelson, Jr. Charlotte attended Union High School -Union, NJ and was actively involved in the school's music program. Upon graduation Charlotte furthered her education at Bethany College in West Virginia.

At Bethany she was involved in campus life and was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority, was in many theater productions and was a varsity cheerleader involved in college sports. It was at Bethany that she met her future husband David. Charlotte graduated with honors from Bethany and then entered a Master's Program in Education at Kent State University, Kent, Ohio. Upon completion of her degree Charlotte returned to New Jersey and began a career in teaching which lasted for over 30 years in NJ, OH, MS, FL and PA; she spent over 20 years teaching elementary school in the Bethlehem Area School District.

As she began her teaching career, she also began her married life with David Valuska which started a loving partnership of over 65 years. In that marriage Charlotte and David had two daughters: Andrea M. (Douglas) Jones and Joanne M. (Scott) Burke and they were the joy of her life. She was also blessed with five loving grandchildren: Elizabeth, Charlotte, David, Frankie and Lila. The grandchildren were a source of great pride, love and enjoyment. She was also blessed to see her granddaughter, Elizabeth, marry Dylan Kutz in October 2020 and her grandson, David, get engaged to Genna Dyga in June 2024.

Charlotte had a varied and diverse life. While her husband was in the military (USAF) she served as a hostess to prominent foreign officers visiting Eglin AFB, Fort Walton Beach, FL. Charlotte patiently kept the family together while her husband served a tour in Vietnam, She was actively involved in promoting the Pennsylvania German Culture and with her husband conducted many trips to Germany to discover the routes of Pennsylvania German immigration. Charlotte and her husband traveled extensively throughout eastern and western Europe: She assisted her husband during his teaching in England (Oxford University) and in Germany and Austria (Kutztown University) She was a charter member of the Choctahatchie (FL) Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Charlotte was a long-standing member of the Eastern Star Chapter in Kutztown, PA. She was ardent in her Christian faith and served as a Deacon in her home church Jerusalem (Red) Church, Stony Run, PA. Of all of Charlotte's many accomplishments she felt her greatest was her daughters and grandchildren, and they reciprocated with their love for her.

A Funeral Service to celebrate and honor Charlotte's life will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., from Ludwick Funeral Homes and Cremation Care, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Tuesday evening July 2, 2024, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m., both times in the funeral home. Interment will follow the services in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Fleetwood.
