Charles F. Hilbert, 85, formerly of Topton died Thursday, May 27, 2010 in Cedarbrook, South Whitehall Township, where he was a patient since March 2010. He was the widower of Mae E. (Reese) Hilbert who died February 27, 2000.
Born in Topton, he was a son of the late Jared and Mabel (Lochjaw) Hilbert. He was a US Army veteran of WWII, serving with the 17th Airborne Division in England, Belgium and Germany. He worked for Atlas Minerals & Chemicals, Inc., Mertztown, from 1947 until his retirement in 1988. Charles was a member of Pike Township Sportsmen’s Association and a life member of the Ray A. Master, Post 217, American Legion, Topton. In 2005 the Topton Little League Association honored him for his interest and support of their programs by naming one of their baseball fields “Charlie’s Field”.
He is survived by Sisters, Hilda (Hilbert) widow of Charles Flicker, Topton, and Viola (Hilbert) wife of Thomas Schmoyer, Mulberry, Florida; and a Sister-in-law, Dorothy (Sichler) widow of Leroy Hilbert, Topton.
Funeral Services are Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at 10:30 AM from the Ludwick Funeral Home, 25 East Weis Street, Topton. Interment in Longswamp Union Cemetery, Mertztown. Friends may call Tuesday, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Topton, PA.
