Catherine J Kuhns

Catherine J. (Gaby) Kuhns, 83, of Kutztown, died Friday, January 29, 2016 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. She was the wife of Richard L. Kuhns, Sr., whom she married on November 8, 1952.

Born in Kutztown, she was a daughter of the late Clarence C. and Alma C. (Heinly) Gaby. Mrs. Kuhns was a member of Saint John's Lutheran Church, Kutztown, where she was an active quilter. She was a 1950 graduate of Kutztown Area High School and a 1970 graduate of Kutztown State College, now Kutztown University, where she received her degree in Elementary Education. Mrs. Kuhns was employed as a teacher in the Muhlenberg School District for 25 years, retiring in 1995. She also worked as a waitress at the former Bastian Luncheonette, Trexlertown in the 1950's and as a student nurse at the former Allentown General Hospital from 1950 to 1952. Catherine had a love for music and taught piano lessons in her home for several years.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Richard; Sons, Richard L. Kuhns, Jr., and Robert D. Kuhns, both of Kutztown, and Russell D., husband of Mary Alice (Konopelski) Kuhns, Hamburg; 3 Grandchildren, David R., husband of Amelia Kuhns, Exeter, Marie C. (Kuhns), wife of Rick Dooley, Fleetwood, and Alicia M. Kuhns, Baltimore, MD; and 2 Great Grandchildren, Jael and Avila Dooley. Catherine was predeceased by her only Sister, Arline M. (Gaby) Bucks in 2013.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at 12:00 noon in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, with Reverend Mary Ann Hamm officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Kutztown. Relatives and friends may call Tuesday morning from 11:00 AM to 12:00 noon in the funeral home.
