Carl D. “Corky” Wanamaker, 83, of Lower Gwynedd Township, Montgomery County, died Thursday, April 7, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Doris J. (Christman) Wanamaker. They were married 57 years this past November.
Born in Macungie, Lehigh County, he was a son of the late Bernard and Marie (Snyder) Wanamaker. He was a member of Saint John’s Lutheran Church, Ambler, PA, where he was a past treasurer, council member and Sunday school teacher. He was a US Navy Veteran. He was a 1953 graduate of Gettysburg College with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He worked as a tax accountant for 32 years for Bell of Pennsylvania, now Verizon until his retirement in 1985.
He is survived by Wife, Daughters, Karen S. (Wanamaker) wife of Rev. Dr. Kevin J. Cassidy, Kingston, MA and Cyndi L. (Wanamaker) Focht fiancé of Michael J. Lovas both of Eagleville, Montgomery County. Other survivors include a Sister, Betty (Wanamaker) Diehl, Allentown, and Grandchildren, Melissa, David and Katie Cassidy.
Funeral Services are Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at 2:00 PM from Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 25 East Weis Street, Topton. Interment with Military Honors provided by Ray A. Master Post 217 American Legion Topton, in Topton Union Cemetery, Topton. Friends may call Tuesday, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 24 North Ridge Avenue, Ambler, PA 19002. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Topton, PA.
