Betty I Fairchild

Betty I. (Althouse) Fairchild, 86, of Mertztown, died Wednesday, July 29, 2015 in her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of Claude Fairchild who died November 19, 1999.

Born in Topton, she was a daughter of the late Walter M. and Rachel O. (Knauss) Althouse. Mrs. Fairchild was a member of Grace Evangelical Congregational Church, Kutztown. She was a 1947 graduate of Kutztown High School and a 1950 graduate of Allentown Hospital School of Nursing. Betty was employed as a Registered Nurse at the former office of William O. Muelhauser, M.D., Topton, for 13 years retiring in 1986. Prior to that, she worked in the same capacity at the former Allentown General Hospital, Allentown from 1950 to 1952, Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown, for three years, and The Lutheran Home at Topton for 13 years.

She is survived by Daughters, Ann M. (Fairchild), wife of David A. Eckroat, Mertztown, with whom she resided and Tammy J. (Fairchild), wife of William D. Folks, Republic, WA; Son, Troy T., husband of Tina T. (Hess) Fairchild, Mertztown. Other survivors include 6 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren.  Betty was predeceased by her Siblings, June D. (Althouse) Gillner, Robert Althouse, Niles Althouse and Ralph Althouse.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2015 at 6:00 PM in Grace Evangelical Congregational Church, 421 West Main Street, Kutztown, with Pastor Adam P. Roberts officiating. Relatives and friends may call Sunday evening from 5:00 to 6:00 PM in the church. Inurnment will be private.

The family requests contributions be made in Betty's memory to Grace E. C. Church Memorial Fund, 421 West Main Street, Kutztown, PA 19530. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Topton, PA.
