Benjamin R Jones

Benjamin R. Jones, 81, of Kutztown, formerly of Camp Hill, Cumberland Co., passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2012 surrounded by his loving family in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

Born in Pittston, PA, he was the son of Benjamin G. Jones and Leda Williams Jones, and was the youngest of four children. He was predeceased by his three siblings; Catherine Pope, West Pittston, PA, Griffith Jones, Absecon, NJ, and AnnaMae Owens, West Lawn, PA. Ben was a veteran of the Korean War, and served in the Army from 1950-1952. Ben was honored to have lived a life of public service with the Pennsylvania State Police, Troop H, Harrisburg. His tour of duty began in October of 1953 and his outstanding record of service on the job led him to attain the rank of Major before his retirement in 1990, as head of the Records and Identification Unit in Harrisburg. His love for the Pennsylvania State Police was only surpassed by the love he felt for his family. He loved to play golf and delighted his grandchildren and great grandchildren with his playful attitude, his sound advice, and his passion for model railroading.

He was a devoted and loving husband, father and Grampa, and was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Elizabeth F. Jones. He will be dearly missed by his missed by his two daughters, Sharon Devore, wife of James Devore, Newville, PA, and Cathy Jones, wife of Michael Dietrich, Kutztown, PA. Ben is also survived by seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, many loving nieces and nephews, and the gang at the Center Street Grille.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, August 11, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the Ludwick Funeral Home, 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown. Inurnment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, will be held at a later date. Friends may call Saturday from 1:00 to 2:00 PM in the funeral home.
