Benjamin A. Herman, age 97, of Hausman Road, Luther Crest, Allentown PA, formerly of Kutztown PA, died Monday, March 4, 2002 in his home. He was the Husband of Ruth E. (Redcay) Herman. The couple celebrated their 69th Wedding Anniversary in January.
Born in Maxatawny Township PA, he was the son of the late George C. and Mary E. (Pott) Herman. He was a Broker for the former C. V. Converse Company in Allentown PA from 1942 - 1946 and he was a Physical Education Teacher at the Pennside School, Reading PA, for 10 years. He was a Member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Kutztown PA, where he served as Deacon and on the Consistory.
He received a Bachelor's Degree in Business in 1921 from the Kutztown Normal School, now Kutztown University, Kutztown PA. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Finance in 1928 from Gettysburg College, Gettysburg PA. He attended Graduate School at the University of Pennsylvania and Temple University, Philadelphia PA.
He was the Justice of the Peace in Kutztown for 16 years during the 1940's and 1950's. He was a Director of the Kutztown Fair for over 40 years and was named Director Emeritus. He was a Member of the Advisory Board of the former Penn Savings Bank, Kutztown Branch. He was a Member of the Huguenot Lodge #377, Kutztown since 1926. He published the Amish Dutch Tourist Guide for over 20 years, until 1988.
He is survived by his Wife; son, Benjamin P. Herman; 2 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, March 7, 2002 in the Ludwick Funeral Home, 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown. Family and Friends may call 9:-00 - 10:00 AM in the Funeral Home. Masonic Services will be held at 9:30 AM. Interment in Charles Baber Cemetery, Pottsville PA.
