Barry L. Quillman, 76, of Mertztown, passed away on Sunday morning, May 1, 2022 in the Hospice Unit of Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest, Salisbury Township. He was the loving husband of Rose M. (Krauss) Quillman whom he married on May 7, 1983.
Born in Fleetwood, Barry was a son of the late Charles S. and Mary E. (Bartlet) Quillman and attended the Oley Valley School District. Barry was employed by the former Stroh Brewery Company, Fogelsville, for 27 and ½ years until his retirement. During his career at Stroh, Barry worked as a tow motor operator, yard jockey, on the labeling line as well as having other various positions. He later worked for Barrett Trucking, Brown's Feed Mill, East Penn Manufacturing Co., Inc., and The IRIS Company. Most recently, Barry was employed by The Brandywine Heights Area School District working as a custodian at the high school for almost 11 years.
Barry was a member of the Topton and Lyons Fire Companies where he was a dedicated volunteer for 45 years. He started as a driver, then became an active firefighter, and later, a Fire Policeman. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mertztown, and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Barry enjoyed fishing, whether it was with his friends from work, or with his nephews and great-nephews. He also liked bowling, baseball, and going out to eat. Even though Barry did not have any children of his own, he loved spending time with his nephews, great-nephews and niece, James, Thomas, Jeremy, Shawn, Scott and Ashley.
Along with his wife of almost 39 years, Rose, Barry is survived by his brother and sister-in-laws and their families. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his 10 siblings, Mildred, Hettie, Erma, Betty, Sandy, Patsy, Stella, Harold, Harry and Franklin.
A funeral service to celebrate and honor Barry's life will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 50 Luther Drive, Mertztown, PA, with The Reverend Dr. Jeremiah A. Sassaman officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:50 a.m. in the church.
Burial will be held on Monday morning, May 9, at 10:00 a.m. in Berks County Memorial Gardens, 201 Evansville Road, Fleetwood, PA. A procession will form at the cemetery office building beginning at 9:45 a.m.
