Barbara Stewart

Barbara F. Stewart, 96, a resident of Topton Lutheran Home and formerly of Philadelphia and Bechtelsville, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of George F. and Marion (Fry) Fry. She graduated from Myers High School in 1947 and later attended business school.

While raising her children, she also served as a foster parent for the Lutheran Children's Bureau, caring for many newborn infants and children.

In her later years, she enjoyed time with her family as well as playing cards. She was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Bechtelsville.

Barbara is cherished and survived by her children, Gail T. Sheridan (Michael), Westampton, NJ, Glen G. Trethaway (Deborah), Bechtelsville,and Bruce G. Trethaway, Bechtelsville; 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces.

She was predeceased by her husband, William P. Stewart, MD; son, Mark T. Trethaway; and her three siblings.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
