Barbara Ann (Pyne) Calafati, 62, of Mertztown, died peacefully after a brief illness on Monday, April 20, 2026, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. She was surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of Mark Calafati. They were married May 9, 1988. Born in Youngstown, Ohio, Barbara was a daughter of the late James Thomas and Beverly June (Colvin) Pyne. She was a member of Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Kutztown.
Barb was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Youngstown, OH, Class of 1981. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Clarion University, Clarion, PA, in 1984.
Barbara was a highly skilled computer programmer, working for Quest Diagnostics for over 25 years and Tata Consultancy Services for 13 years. Her keen intellect and problem-solving skills were valued by her colleagues and the many young professionals she mentored.
Barb was involved with Girl Scouts of America, and served locally as the Cookie Coordinator for many years. She was also active with the Brandywine Heights Sports Boosters.
She was selflessly devoted to her family and filled their lives with laughter and unconditional love. She maintained a list of Christmas and birthday gift ideas year-round, and always gave thoughtful gifts personalized to each family member. She loved hosting holiday dinners and cooking her signature dishes like lasagna, meatballs, and caprese salad.
She remembered the names and ages of each one of her many beloved grand-nieces and nephews, and loved to travel to their numerous plays, games, recitals, weddings, and graduations. She especially relished family traditions like CrabFest, the annual Good Friday trip to Termini's in Philly, cookie tables, trips to Wildwood, and shopping at Boscov's.
She loved her children, Lisa and Philip, unconditionally. She was their biggest fan and gave them her whole heart and soul, filling their lives with her affection, support, and wisdom. She welcomed their partners, Steven and Dominic, with open arms and cherished the time she spent with them.
She enjoyed 38 years with her husband Mark, her best friend and love of her life. They visited dozens of Caribbean islands together, and she loved to share stories from her adventures with him.
Other survivors include sisters, Carolyn S. (Pyne), wife of Mark Volponi, Liberty Boro, Allegheny County; Susan (Pyne), wife of Lenny Sefcik, Youngstown, OH; and Nancy (Pyne), widow of Robert Bensinger, Poland, OH.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 14833 Kutztown Road, Kutztown, with The Reverend John C. Maria, as Celebrant. Inurnment in Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. in the church.
The family requests contributions be considered in Barbara's memory to Saint Mary's Church, 14833 Kutztown Road, Kutztown, PA 19530.
