Alys Kline

Alys Kline, 88, died on Sunday, March 11, 2007, in Pensacola Beach, FL where she resided.

Born in Seattle, WA she was the daughter of the late Frank and Elsie Kline. She was raised in Kutztown, PA by her late aunt and uncle, Richard and M. Virginia Sharadin. Alys received her RN from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing, Reading, PA a BS in Nursing and MA in Nursing Administration and Education from Columbia University, NY. She was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Public Administration from Marian College, IN, in 1979. She served in WWII as a Flight Nurse with the Army Air Corps 830 th Medical Air Evacuation Squad, North Africa, Middle and Far East Operations. She was Head Nurse, Supervisor of Operating Rooms and Assistant Director of Nursing at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Reading. She also served as Director of Nursing at Memorial Hospital, Savannah, GA. Alys was Vice President of Nursing at Community Hospital, Indianapolis, for 24 years retiring in 1980. She was active in the Pensacola community, including volunteering at Fort Pickens National Park.

She is survived by Sister, Dorothy wife of Donald Sweatman, Leavens, NC; Nieces, Mary (Sharadin) Weaknecht, Kutztown, Dottie Joe Lasher, SC; Nephew, Richard Sharadin, Kutztown; several grand and great nieces and nephews and one great-grand niece.

Services are private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Pensacola Public Library, 200 West Gregory Street, Pensacola, FL 32501 or Fort Pickens National Park, National Park Service, c/o the Superintendent, 1801 Gulf Breeze Parkway, Gulf Breeze, FL 32563. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
