Allen E. Hertzog, 88, of Luther Haven, Topton, formerly of New Jerusalem, died Friday, May 29, 2009 in the In-Patient Hospice Unit of Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. He was the husband of Ruth A. (Heydt) Hertzog. They were married August 26, 1951.

Born in Rockland Township, he was a son of the late Bryan R. and Helen J. (DeLong) Hertzog. He was a member of New Jerusalem United Church of Christ, Rockland Township. He was an assistant scoutmaster for Boy Scout Trout 585, New Jerusalem, from 1963 to 1969; a member of Lyons Fire Company, Lyon Station; and a life member of Ray A. Master Post 217, American Legion, Topton. He was a US Army veteran of World War II. He was a laborer at Firestone Tire & Rubber Company, Pottstown for 35 years until his retirement in 1981.

He is survived by Wife, Daughter, Christine E. Hertzog, Menlo Park, Calif.; Son, Gary S. husband of Tina R. (Oswald) Hertzog, Hamburg. There are 2 Grandchildren, Seth B. and Jonathan C. Hertzog. In addition, there is a Sister, Virginia M. Hertzog, Temple.

Funeral Services are Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at 1:30 PM from New Jerusalem United Church of Christ Church, 33 Lyons Road, Fleetwood. Interment in Hope Cemetery, Dryville. Friends may call Monday, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM in the Ludwick Funeral Home, 25 East Weis Street, Topton. There will be no viewing prior to the services in the church.

The family requests contributions be made to the Memorial Fund of New Jerusalem U.C.C. Church, 33 Lyons Road, Fleetwood, 19522 or the Endowment Fund of The Lutheran Home at Topton c/o Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries, 798 Hausman Road, Suite 300, Allentown, PA 18104-9108. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Topton, PA.
